This September is the big trip: Our dream trip to Italy!

The trip looked slightly different when I first dreamed it up ten years ago.

But upon my 40th birthday, my enthusiastic husband said: "you only turn 40 once."

And beyond setting reasonable life priorities, we decided to go fo it!

We had survived a pandemic, just welcomed our second baby and we were feeling that yolo energy that the rest of the world has been embracing. We also have our ten-year wedding anniversary coming up next year. Do we need another reason to justify this trip?

The first Airbnb had been booked and my research, which became a small hobby, began in the middle of the night while I breastfed my new baby.

We were excited to go to Italy with the kids for a few reasons. Educational adventures with my six-year-old sounded exciting. There is a whole slew of kid-focused tour guides - and honestly, we love learning in a fun way together.

We are also excited to rock our son's world by entering a foreign land to learn about different cultures and languages.

The history, art, and architecture is also going to be so enriching.

Have I had my doubts? Only enough that I've made a backup plan to leave my husband with the kids to venture solo if things really go downhill.

But truly - I'm excited to be on this adventure together with them.
